Mike Compton and David Long
Known as two of the foremost mandolin players on today's traditional acoustic music scene, AcousticDisc recording artists, Mike Compton and David Long duet formed in 2003 after they realized they had a mutual interest in a variety of string band music - rural country blues, old time, bluegrass, and early string-band music.
Grammy winner, Mike Compton is perhaps best known as the featured mandolin player on the "Oh, Brother Where Art Thou" movie and soundtrack. He also performed on the "Down From The Mountain" Tour, as well as the Cold Mountain Tour. He has collaborated with such diverse notables as John Hartford, David Grier, Ralph Stanley, Sting, and Elvis Costello. Mike currently plays mandolin with the Nashville Bluegrass Band and was nominated for the 2005 IBMA Mandolin Player Of The Year.
David Long is described as a next-generation musician stepping forward, while keeping the traditional sounds of bluegrass in his playing and composing. He has played with the Wildwood Valley Boys, as well as Karl Shiflett and his Big Show. As part of the Chris Sharp and David Long Band, his CD "One Hand On The Radio", was received strongly by Bluegrass Unlimited and Bluegrass Now. The David Long CD "Midnight From Memphis" has received staunch reviews from critics including Mandolin Magazine and Mandolin Quarterly. Currently, David can be seen with the Little Country Giants and the AC's - a collaboration with Blue Merle's Beau Stapleton, and John Hartford band alum Matt Combs.
Nominated for 2006 IBMA Recorded Event of the Year, the Mike Compton and David Long CD - "STOMP" is available on David Grisman's AcousticDisc label.
