Red Deer Advocate - Mike Compton and David Long
Stomp - Acoustic Disc
By avoiding noodling self-indulgence, these
eight-stringed masters have created an engaging,
multi-faceted document of mandolin explorations.
Compton is one of the most respected Monroe-styled
mandolinists within bluegrass music, but here he and
his youthful protégé take the instrument - in his words
- "farther south."
The melodies are easy on the ear and by alternating
between vocal and instrumental pieces, Compton and
Long have delivered an accessible exploration of the
music that influenced bluegrass in its formative years.
